How to Get the Most Out of Your Workouts

Learning how to get the most out of your workouts matters: it can make or break your success. You might decide to quit because you are not seeing results. I am all about being as efficient with my time as possible. I love effective workouts; they help me reach specific physical goals. Over the years, I learned some helpful ways to achieve this. That’s why I thought in today’s post, we would discuss how to get the most out of your workouts.

How to Get the Most Out of Your Workouts

The following tips are practical ideas to help you discover how you can get the most out of your workouts.

1- Pick Your Workout Goals

Working out just for the sake of working out will not likely motivate you long-term. Picking specific goals, however, will help you keep up with your workouts as you strive towards your goals and notice you are making progress. Moreover, having specific workout goals will enable you to use your time efficiently as you pick exercises that support your goals.

Workout Goals Examples

Here are some examples of goals that have motivated me to stay consistent with my workouts:

  • Muscle tone: Looking more toned can be motivating.
  • Strength: Every woman should strength train!
  • Specific Flexibility: Working on your flexibility is another excellent goal.
  • Skills: Learning something new, like a yoga pose or a sport.
  • Endurance: Increasing how long you can exert yourself (whether it’s cardio or how many reps you can lift a weight)

Pick your workout goals that are measurable and attainable. Choose your workouts accordingly. I see so many people working out randomly at the gym. Don’t be one of them (whether you are working out at home or at the gym)! Tailor your workouts to your goals. Workout with Intention!

2- Try Working Out at Different Times

To get the most out of your workouts, you may find that your workout times matter. Some people perform better in the morning, others in the afternoon or the evening. Experiment with different times and see what works best for you.

3- Try Coffee or Bulletproof Coffee Before Working Out

Many women notice that coffee before working out improves their performance. I find that bulletproof coffee can improve mine even more. Read Make This Delicious Keto Coffee Every Morning To Boost Your Fasting Results to learn more about bulletproof coffee and to get some recipes.

If you don’t drink coffee, there are other effective pre-workout supplements. My personal favorite is Can’t Beet This!

4- Don’t Neglect Your Flexibility

Whether flexibility is one of your fitness goals or not, don’t neglect including some flexibility exercises in your workout regimen. Working on your flexibility will help improve your strength and your stability. It will allow for deeper movements and help prevent injuries.

5- Experiment With Your Food and Water Intake

Starting a new training regimen may take a few sessions to feel energized and strong after your workout. At first, you may feel drained and wonder how long you can keep this up. Keep in mind that it takes a while for your body to adjust to the new demands you are placing on it. Besides that, experimenting with your food and water intake may help you get the most out of your workouts.

How to Experiment With Food and Water

Try eating various types of foods before and after your workouts. For example, you may try having a protein shake before working out and a banana after working out helps your recovery. You can try oat bars or any type of food that will provide quick useable energy for your body. If you enjoy fasted workouts like me, you may find fats help increase your performance and recovery. Lastly, ensure you are well-hydrated before, during, and after workouts.

6- Listen to Music

As you discover how to get the most out of your workouts, you will most likely find that listening to music helps improve your performance. Music makes you want to dance and move. It keeps your mind off the discomfort. Some people like watching TV or other things, so go ahead and find your groove. Create your Spotify Playlist and share it with me! 7- Measure Your Progress

Now measuring your workouts is vital as you figure out how to get the most out of your workouts. Why? Similarly to picking your workout goals, it will keep you focused and motivated.

Some ways to measure your progress:

  • Progress pictures and videos: Whether it’s to track your body composition or your form, progress pictures and videos come in handy.
  • Tracking your weights: You should increase your weights steadily as you work on strength training.
  • Tracking your reps: Increasing your lifting weights is excellent, but you can also ensure you can increase your reps when you work on endurance.
  • Noticing your flexibility: You know you are progressing as you increase your flexibility.

Personally, measuring my progress has been a critical factor in finding how to get the most out of my workouts. It keeps me on track and gives me a sense of accomplishment.

8- Mix it Up But Not Too Much

I find that changing up my workouts is effective in creating results. Yoga is my absolute favorite, and I have some favorite instructors (learn more about my yoga workouts here), but I notice that when I try different routines and instructors after staying with the same one for a while, I get sore again (which indicates my muscles are getting more substantial). Furthermore, doing weight lifting at the gym helps me increase my performance in my yoga workouts faster.

However, too much diversity can also be detrimental. Sticking to your routines long enough to notice your improvement is good. I like to repeat my yoga routines every few weeks and my gym weight lifting workouts are always pretty much the same, I increase my weights.
