My Simple Skincare Philosophy After 40
As a 48-year-old woman who spent years trying to “figure out” skincare, I’ve learned one truth: I don’t want complicated routines, I like products that actually work.
Two years ago, I found PROVEN Skincare, a fully personalized 3-step routine tailored to your skin type, needs, climate, and even your age. I’ve used it on and off for over two years, which gives me a much clearer view than any 7-day “first impressions” review.
This is not sponsored.
This is not a quick trial.
This is my real experience with PROVEN — including why I loved it, why I stopped using it a few times, and whether I think it helps with hyperpigmentation and redness after 40.
Let’s get into it.
Why I Tried PROVEN Skincare in the First Place
Like many women over 40, I wanted:
- a simple routine
- fewer products
- less guessing
- ingredients that actually work (retinol, vitamin C, hyaluronic acid)
- formulas that take aging skin seriously
But I was tired of trying to “build” my own routine from different brands and unhappy about my skin, particularly its unevenness and redness.

In this picture, I had been using Proven Skincare on and off before, but when this picture was taken, I had been off for at least 5 months.
I started using it again in July,
I first got a Proven subscription in 2023. I notice a difference in my skin fairly quickly.
Here’s what you get with a subscription:
- a Cleanser
- a Day Moisturizer with SPF
- a Night Cream
That’s it.
No 12-step routine. No confusion.
My Skin Concerns at 48 (Redness + Hyperpigmentation)
Before I share my review, it’s important to explain where my skin was at:
- Uneven skin tone
- Redness around cheeks + nose
- Sun spots/dark patches on cheeks
- Occasional sensitivity
- Dullness from stress and lack of sleep
- Dehydrated skin in winter
I wasn’t expecting miracles — but I did want something that made my skin healthier, calmer, and more even.
What’s Inside the PROVEN Routine? (Ingredients Breakdown)
✔️ Hyaluronic Acid
Appears in many formulas and is among their top-recommended ingredients.
Great for hydration + plumpness.
✔️ Peptides & Ceramides
These are consistently included across many personalized formulas.
They support the skin barrier — essential after 40.
✔️ Retinol (or a retinol derivative)
Some night cream formulas (including one of mine) contain Hydroxypinacolone Retinoate, a gentle but effective retinoid.
✔️ Vitamin C
PROVEN emphasizes vitamin C on its site as a key anti-aging ingredient, but not all personalized formulas include a high vitamin C concentration.
Important takeaway:
PROVEN is personalized, so your formula may differ from mine.
If you want strong retinol or strong vitamin C, you might still need a dedicated serum.
The PROVEN Trio (My Experience With Each Product)
1️⃣ The Cleanser — Cleanse, Tone, Gently Exfoliate
PROVEN markets this as a 3-in-1:
- cleanser
- toner
- gentle exfoliator
I loved this.
It keeps my routine simple, and the exfoliating effect helped with texture and glow without irritation.
2️⃣ The Day Moisturizer + SPF
This one is personalized AND includes SPF (some formulas are around SPF 40).
What I noticed:
- hydrated skin all day
- smoother makeup application
- less redness in the mornings
- no white cast
For 40+ skin, SPF + hydration is essential, and this hit both.
3️⃣ The Night Cream — Repair + Anti-Aging
This is the treatment step.
My formulas included:
- peptides
- ceramides
- hyaluronic acid
- a retinol derivative (in one version)
This was the product that made my skin feel “happy” and well-cared-for.

As you can see, my skin does not look perfect and that’s why I decided to experiment a bit more, but it does look a lot better.
Did PROVEN Help My Hyperpigmentation? (The Honest Truth)
Short answer:
It helped my overall skin health, but it didn’t entirely fade my dark spots. I still have some redness and unevenness.
Longer answer:
- My skin looked healthier
- My redness improved
- My texture improved
- My hydration improved
- My glow improved
BUT:
For deeper pigmentation (sun spots), I needed stronger vitamin C or targeted brightening products. PROVEN is more of a complete routine, not a specialized pigmentation treatment.
This is why I stopped using it a few times and why I am stopping again. I have a specific plan of action with targeted ingredients. Stay posted to learn if I get better results. These are pictures of me now that depict well the unevenness and redness I would like to improve.

Pros & Cons of PROVEN Skincare
✔️ Pros
- Simple 3-step routine
- Personalized to age, skin, and climate
- Hydrates and calms the skin
- Great for redness + sensitivity
- High-quality ingredients
- Gentle retinol (in some formulas)
- Easy to stay consistent
✘ Cons
- Not strong enough alone for deep pigmentation
- Retinol/vitamin C strength varies

Will I Go Back to PROVEN?
I don’t know! We will see when I finish testing targeted pigmentation products.
Because here’s the truth:
PROVEN gives me the healthiest, calmest, most hydrated version of my skin.
For everyday maintenance, I trust it more than most routines.
But for hyperpigmentation, retinol, or brightening?
I add additional products.
And honestly, that’s normal for women over 40.
Final Thoughts
If you’re looking for:
- simplicity
- personalization
- hydration
- barrier support
- calmer, healthier skin
…then PROVEN is an excellent option.
If your main goal is:
- fading sun spots
- strong retinol
